Metallic Nails: A Complete Guide to Application & Removal

Metallic Nails are a must have these days. They are available in several designs from floral to hypnotic to different stripes and animal prints.

They are easy to apply, less troublesome, and last for over two weeks. They do not create a mess and with proper care (like applying cuticle oil to the nails) you will not end up damaging your new nail growth as well. They even protect and strengthen your natural nails from chipping and scratching.

How to do Metallic Nails?

The Basics

  • Firstly it is important to sanitize your hands .If you are at a parlour, do not forget to see if the manicure professional has properly washed her hands or not.
  • Remove any traces of previous or old nail polish.
  • Push back cuticles and buff the nail surface for a smooth base.
  • Clean up the nail surface again with a remover to remove the dust of buffing.

Choosing Size And Shape

  • As per your nail’s size choose the metallic nail shade suitable for a specific finger.
  • You will get to know which one fits when the nail surface is totally covered from side to side.
  • If the metallic nails are a bigger than your own nail size, then buff and trim from the sides to get the perfect size for your nails.

Essentials

  • A very good quality base coat is essential for the metallic nail art. You can go for Diva Taylor Bond or Chambor Base coats.

Application

  • Apply the adhesive leaving a slight gap from the cuticles and the skin.
  • Apply a very thin layer of adhesive to the opposite side of the metallic nails at the cuticle point as well. Do not apply at the extended extensions.
  • Immediately push the metallic nails on to the cuticle area of your nails and stick them by slowly lowering them on to the entire nail. Keep slight pressure for 10-15 seconds.
  • Lift pressure and clean the surroundings off any excess adhesive. You can also use adhesive tabs which are easy to apply and stick on a metallic nail. In that case you will not require normal nail adhesive.
  • With lesser wear and tear or washing and soaking of hands, these can last up to 2 weeks perfectly.
  • You may use a top coat, but this is optional .But it protects the metallic nails from getting scratched.

Removal

  • Firstly you should cut off the extensions of all your metallic nails and then buff their surfaces
  • Next use cuticle oil on to the cuticle and skin area surrounding the nails.
  • Now dip the hand into a bowl of acetone, such that each of the metallic nails is fully getting soaked in them.
  • After 5-6 minutes, see how much the metallic nails are soaked. If they are ready to come off, then you can easily remove them with a cuticle pusher by swiping motions.
  • Clean the surface of your and massage cuticle oil which will protect your cuticles and enhance new nail growth.
