How to Tell When to Discard Your Makeup: A Guide to Skincare

Most of us love our makeup products even if it’s a lip balm or a massive eye shadow palette or kit. Each and every product we had bought or gifted we feel so attached even if that is no longer in use due to any reason. Sometimes we but makeup just for the sake of having a gorgeous color or that packaging you have been lusting but do you know our makeup has also something to say.

The products that we have been using to enhance our beauty can be a reason for those overnight acne or pimple eruption or those tiny little rashes or bumps at the forehead or a red eye. Basically, the eye products need more attention.Hence, we should be aware about the shelf life of our products and when its time to say goodbye to them. And how to store them while you are using them.Make sure that you place or store your cosmetics and beauty products in a cool and dry place. Places which are moist can be a reason for the bacterial and fungal infections.

Here is a guide and points to remember and taken care of for the products that you use

Lipstick : Most of the times, we do not even remember when we have bought a particular lipstick but it is equally important to know that they have a shelf life of 24 months so after that you should discard them.

Mascara : Mascara is one of the shortest life span products. It has an average shelf life of only three months hence it is very important to replace your old mascara and when you see that it has been dried out throw it away and never ever use water or any other fluid for diluting it otherwise it can be problematic for the eyes and increases the chances of bacterial infections.

Eye shadow : we all love playing with colors but yes we should not play for more than 24 to 30 months as they can lead to eye problems. More than the eye shadow you should take extra cleanliness of the brushes and the sponge applicator that you are using.

Blush : Powder blushes can be used up to 2 and half years but cream blushes should be discarded after 2 years since they are prone more to get infected.

Eye and lip pencils : Again their shelf life is 2 years which is fine to use a bit more than that but make sure to sharp everytime you apply and their caps tightly closed and not lying around naked in your vanity.

Foundations/ Concealers : Now, here comes the product which forms the base for our makeup and are applied on the larger area of our skin. Liquid foundations can be stored for one and half years, that’s it!!

Don’t try to keep it for long and the same goes with our concealers too.Last but not at all the least, our very own makeup brushes. No matter how fresh products you are using if the brushes are not cleaned regularly you can still get infections, rashes etc.Make sure to clean them every time you are done with them with baby shampoo.
