Travel-Friendly Makeup: 5 Simple Tips for Staying Fresh on the Go

“ The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page” – Augustine of Hippo. This is something that really touched my heart. When the vacation and festivities are around the corner I just can’t resist the lure of travelling. Holidays are the perfect time to bask on the beaches or enjoy the cool crisp air in the mountains.

Yet, travelling and stress are often two sides of a coin. The real challenge is to feel refreshed and look good while travelling. How much makeup is too much is also something to be pondered on.

Once, I was travelling with my aunt and someone asked her if she was going to a wedding afterwards. Ouch! Post that experience, I have slowly figured out how to travel light yet look sharp.

Makeup Tips For Traveling:

Keep it simple! That’s the mantra. Never use too much make up (especially eye makeup); you don’t want to end up looking like a raccoon.

1. Moisturise:

Apply a gel based moisturizer (dries quickly without the oiliness) on your face followed by a Tinted moisturizer/BB cream. You can use concealer for covering any break outs/pimples.InFact , create a small travel bag and fill it up with sample sized products.

  • Moisturisers
  • Sunscreens
  • Wipes

2. Light/ Waterproof eye makeup:

This is not the time to indulge in those glittery and bright eye shadows. I prefer to skip eye makeup.

  • Apply a waterproof pencil eye liner
  • Curl your lashes with an eyelash curler.
  • Slick on a waterproof mascara for an instant pick me up

3. Lip Wear:

Lips tend to dry up and crack due to extreme dryness

  • Apply Tinted lip balm, so that you can get a nice colour and nice baby soft lips. For ex Maybelline Baby Lips

4. Hair help:

  • Moisturise your hair with a hair spa (L’oreal ) or hair oil ( Moroccan / Argan ) on the eve of departure
  • Shampoo and condition either on that night or on the travel date if possible. It helps to retain moisture in the hair Keep a travel size comb in your bag.
  • Massage a drop or two of serum into your hair to fight the frizz. In a pinch, you can apply a drop of your moisturiser if you are out of serum.

5. General Tips:

To avoid any last minute oops you can fill up your small travel bag with

  • Pocket combs / headbands
  • Hottie in your adjacent seat – Fret no more and pop in a gum from your travel stash.Carry mints , tic tacsetc
  • To avoid any last minute oops stash in a sanitary pad or two
  • Avoid nail polishes and either go bare or apply a clear coat to avoid chips.
  • Dress in comfortable yet smart clothing so no sloppy sweats and no nine inch heels.
