Our nails are our best visiting card, therefore we must maintain them healthy and beautiful. However, it is not just the nail polish we use that makes the difference, but the shape of our nails too. If you don't know how to choose the best nail shape, take a look at these basic tips and draw your inspiration.
Even though choosing your nail shape is a matter of personal
preferences and style, there are a few things a woman should know
and take into consideration before opting for square or round
nails. As our hands and nails represent a symbol of
beauty and femininity being the best visiting card, it is important
to follow a certain care routine and find the most flattering shape
for our nails.
We would all love to have gorgeous-looking hands, with long,
delicate fingers and perfect nails. However, since this is rather
impossible, you should know that based on the natural size and
shape of your nails only a few colors and a certain nail shape
flatters you.
A well-chosen nail shape not only helps you obtain a more delicate
and stylish look for your hands, but it can also boost
self-confidence. Therefore, whenever feeling like going for a
specific trend, you should better think twice and choose something
that suits you. Forget about who wears what and discover that
special nail shape that flatters you and makes you feel better.
Basically, there are four main types of nail shape, round,
square, oval and pointed, each and everyone of these shapes working
for a specific finger anatomy. Despite the fact that you can find a
few similitudes between nails, there are various shapes and sizes,
and it is hard to find two persons having identical nails. There
are two parts of a nail that should be taken into consideration
when looking for the appropriate nail shape: the nail bed and the
lunula ("the moon") which is the visible part of the nail
matrix.
Well, the nail bed can have different shapes due to the fact that
it suits a person's finger anatomy. The lunula is also an important
thing to consider when choosing the best nail shape. However, there
is one simple rule that you should follow when having the lunula as
reference point. Therefore, if the lunula of your nail is
round-shaped, the nails should be rounded too, but if the lunula is
squared, the nails should have a squared-shape also.
Based on the nail bed, nail shape can vary from one individual
to another. If the nail bed is wider and shorter, you should opt
for square nails, but make sure you keep the edges round. On the
other hand, if you have a big and long nail bed, it is preferable
to choose a square shape slightly rounded at the corners.
A square shape is flattering if the lunula is squared and the
length should be chosen proportionally to the length of the nail
bed. For nails with long and narrow nail bed, it is more
appropriate to select a pointed shape. However, if the lunula is
square and the nail bed is long, opt for square nails with rounded
edges. Oval nail beds are the merriest since they can suit almost
everything.
You can also find the best nail shape based on the shape and size
of your fingers. Therefore, square nails look great on narrow, long
fingers, while pointed nails flatter smaller hands and fingers. If
you have short nails, opt for a round shape, while oval is
universally flattering, but it mostly flatters wide, short fingers.
If your nails have different shapes, square is the best. There is
also another shape called squoval that works on short, wide fingers
or big, long fingers. You should follow the natural line of your
nails and keep them rather short, without edges if your hands and
fingers are wider.
