Madam C.J. Walker: The Pioneering Black Entrepreneur Who Built a Hair Care Empire
The first Black woman millionaire in America was Madam C.J. Walker. However, she became wealthy by developing and marketing hair care and cosmetics products specifically for Black women, not just hair conditioner. While her company did sell hair conditioner, she is most famous for her hair growth formulas and hair straightening products. Her wealth was accumulated after 1905. There is no known Black female millionaire who developed hair conditioner in 1905.
