Boots Boots Essentials Curl Crème Review: Definition & Frizz Control for 2C Hair?

Boots Boots Essentials Curl Crème Review: Definition & Frizz Control for 2C Hair?I have a friend who has very similar hair to mine- wavy, thick and dark. (I’d say my hair is 2c on the classification table). The only difference is that her curls always look defined and frizz free. My hair generally has a wispy, wool-like quality to it. I just assumed the difference lay in genetics, after all I was using a fancy curl friendly shampoo and an expensive styling product (Aveda if you’re interested).
On one occasion my shiny haired friend was complaining that she had run out of her styling product. “Oh, what are you using?” I asked, trying to sound all casual. “It’s just a cheapo thing from Boots, Curl Crème it’s called, my hairdresser recommended it to me”. I was in Boots before she could say Ta ra.

Boots Curl Crème is indeed cheapo, it’s only £1.99 for 250ml. It comes in a plastic tub and it’s baby pink in colour. I would never have bought it unless I’d been told to, Curl Crème looks very basic. But it’s an actual godsend in Sheeps clothing. The scent is perfumey and the texture is a thick soft gel.

I take a little blob on my finger. You don’t want too much or your hair will go dead crispy when it’s dry.

If any of my surface curls are being rambunctuous I’ll twiddle them with a bit of product. The only way you can go wrong is to apply too much, even then it’s not the end of the world. If it’s a bit stiff, just zjoooze it up after its dry. I’ve learnt through painful experience that I’m only allowed to fiddle with my hair when it’s soaking wet. It must remain untouched until it dries naturally if I want it curly and nice. I’m sure it’s a learning process that all curly haired women go through.

Boots Curl Crème gives the perfect  amount of control and definition for curly hair. If you use the right amount, it isn’t stiff. It takes down the frizz and gives natural structure. I don’t think it has any moisturising properties though. It’s ingredients list sounds like a list of chemicals-

It doesn’t sound very botanical to me. I don’t think it’s going to have any long lasting hair improving effect, it’s just a styling product. It’s only £1.99 so we can let it off. You can use a bit to smooth dry hair and I’m sure you can use it before diffusing. (I can’t test it because my diffuser is broken)

Boots Curl Crème Overview

Pros-

  • Extremely purse friendly at £1.99
  • Curl Crème is one of the few products I’ve found in my lifetime that actually do anything for the appearance of my hair. It gives curly hair frizz free definition.

Cons-

  • The packaging is basic. It ain’t a luxury product.
  • Does nothing for the long term health of hair.

If you’re looking for something to keep your curls under control, then you have found it. Boots Curl Crème is fantastic, and at such a low price it’s easy to overlook some minor shortcomings.
