Men's Dandruff: Causes, Remedies & Effective Solutions

Dandruff in men is a huge turn off to any woman. It results in quite an embarrassing moment to have flakes on your shoulder while you are on a date. Dandruff in men can be a result of dryness in scalp or in many cases bacterial or fungal infection. Dandruff problem in men can be persistent if untreated or proper hair care regime is not followed. Sometimes the problem of dandruff in men can start due to change of shampoo, infections in water, partners infection through pillow etc.
There are several home remedies that can be applied to curing, reducing or avoiding dandruff problem. Most of these remedies involve mild citrus acid extract from lemon, which is an excellent remedial agent. Lemon extract along with other natural ingredients can be applied before or after shower depending upon various methods and ingredients involved.

Other popular ingredients that are involved in home remedy along with lemon are coconut oil, olive oil, hazel oil, peppermint oil, vinegar, soar curd, tea extracts etc. All these ingredients help in controlling dandruff in men. They act as a cleanser or a moisturising agent as well as conditioning your hair for. Keeping your scalp and hair clean, as well as healthy, helps to a large extent in controlling dandruff. Citric acid in lemon is specifically helpful in getting rid of stubborn dandruff.

Following are several home remedies involving lemon to rid your scalp of dandruff.

Coconut oil

Warm up coconut oil over indirect heat and then take it out. Put 2tbsp fresh lemon juice and massage it on the scalp. Leave this on your Hair for 15 minutes before shampooing off. Do this regularly for at least 2-4 times a week to remove dandruff slowly but effectively.

Hazel Oil

Over indirect heat, mix 1 tbsp of witch hazel oil and lemon juice of about 1tbsp and, apply this warm mixture using circular massage on to scalp. Keep on for about 20 minutes before washing off. Lemon slices can be directly massaged on the scalp to remove dandruff.

Vinegar

4 tbsp of cider vinegar and 2tbsp of lemon juice is a great remedy for dandruff. No need to warm it. Mix both up and apply with a cotton ball on to the scalp. This will help to remove dandruff with regular and continued use.

Sour curd and honey

A mixture of watery sour curd, lemon juice and honey, mixed to consistency, is a great way to get rid of dandruff. Keep it on for at least 20 minutes before rinsing to remove dandruff. Follow the procedure 2-3 times a week.

Tea

Tea is a great way to get rid of dandruff. Make a thick consistency tea by adding about 2tbsp of tea powder in half cup water. Keep the lid closed and then strain the thick consistency mixture. Use 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and mix it. Apply this solution in warm state using a cotton ball on the scalp and leave on for about 15 minutes. Rinse off under tap water.

Hot Oil Treatment

You can do a hot oil treatment with castor oil, coconut oil and lemon juice mixed in the ratio of 1tbsp: 2tbsp: 1tbsp respectively. Apply this with circular massaging motions on the scalp. Keep this closed with warm moist towel for at least 20 minutes for great results.

Henna treatment

Add 4 teaspoons each of lemon juice and coffee, 2 raw eggs, one teaspoon methi seed powder and enough tea-extract to the henna powder, mixing it into a thick paste. Apply the henna on the hair and wash off after an hour.
