Various products available over the counter claim to be good for the hair. But we can simply go back to nature and explore the uses of aloe vera for hair repair.
A matured aloe vera plant has thick spiky leaves and closely resembles a cactus. Its succulent nature goes on to support this perception, but in reality the aloe vera belongs to the lily family. In fact, it is also known as the ‘lily of the desert’. With the world shrinking in size, this wonder plant has now travelled across continents and is now an important ingredient in skin care products. But did we know that it can do wonders for the hair as well?

To use aloe vera for hair repair, the gel extract or juice can be obtained in the market but having a plant at home would be the best option. Cut a matured leaf from as close to the base as possible. Using a sharp knife, peel off the top flat side to expose the gel. Now, carefully scoop out this gel, puree and store in a clean container in the fridge. You can use this aloe vera for hair growth and repair in any of the following ways.
Hair mask: Hair masks are prepared using various items available in the kitchen. Not only they are pure and natural, but also provide maximum benefit. Adding vitamin E rich aloe vera to the mask gives a boost to the mix. Some of the many hair masks in which you can add aloe vera are one whole egg, juice of a lemon and hair oil; yoghurt, honey and hair oil; coconut oil and honey; pureed banana, whole egg and honey.
Hair conditioner: Healthy hair has a good body, bounce and glow. It tangles less and is easy to manage. Even the best of hairs need conditioning and when it comes to repairing damaged hair, a conditioner is a must. Using aloe vera for hair repair in the form of a conditioner can be one of the best treatments you can give to your hair. After a wash, cover your hair from scalp to tip with a mix of aloe vera gel and an essential oil. Make sure to cover the scalp well as healthy hair grows from a healthy scalp. Let it stay for around 15 minutes and rinse. If you are running short of time, you can wash it earlier. Aloe vera on its own, excluding the oil, will also give good results.
Hair spray: In order give your hair a refreshing effect in between sprays, an aloe vera spray is just the thing you need. Make your very own hair spray that acts as a hair elixir. In a spray bottle, mix one cup of distilled water with a tablespoon of aloe vera gel extract. Spray it over your hair as and when required and see your hair bounce back to life.
An ideal hair care regime will always include moisturising, cleansing and conditioning. In all these steps if we include aloe vera for hair repair and growth, the results will turn out to be overwhelming. When hair shines with health, the face lights up too.
