Freckles are a feature many women have a love-hate relationship with. While some might choose to embrace them and even consider them cute, others would like nothing more than to make them disappear as soon as possible. If you are part of the later category, a few natural remedies might help you get the desired results easily and inexpensively.
Depending on how they are perceived, freckles can be a lovable
trait or a source of unsatisfaction and even mild frustration.
Caused by a conglomeration of melatonin in certain areas of the
body, predominantly on the face, shoulders and chest, freckles have
strong genetic component, which means there is not much that can be
done to prevent them. However, since sun exposure can increase the
chances of developing freckles, protecting ourselves by using
sunscreen with a solar protection factor of 30+ is the most
effective protective measure that can be taken.
Although in terms of prevention our options are somewhat
restricted, when it comes to making freckles less obvious, we have
much more alternatives to choose from. Prescription retinoids, over
the counter creams containing hydroquinone, chemical peels
or even laser therapies are some of the most popular options
available, however, these can turn out to be quite costly. Home
remedies on the other hand, are more cost-effective than
conventional options delivering similar results. Here are a few
remedies you might want to put to the test:
Lemon juice is a rather obvious choice thanks to the
natural bleaching properties it has. Used regularly as a spot
treatment, lemon juice can gradually improve the way the skin
looks. Apply the lemon juice using Q tips for extra precision.
An added benefit of treatment is that the vitamin C contained in it
increases the skin's natural protection against the UV rays.
Nonetheless, sun exposure should be avoided immediately after the
treatment. Also, because the lemon juice tends to be quite acidic,
it is best to apply a moisturizing cream soon after you finish the
treatment.
Horseradish is said to be another effective remedy for
freckles. Despite its strong smell and tear-inducing abilities,
horseradish has been used to treat skin problems such as brown
spots and freckles for a long time. Mix 1 tsp of grated horseradish
with 1 tsp of beets and add enough mineral water to make a thick
paste. Leave the mixture on the skin for 30 minutes and rinse with
cold water, making sure to use this treatment three times a
week.
Sour cream is another surprising remedy that can get you
closer to your goal. Sour cream contains lactic acid, which is
provides a gentle peel, lightening the skin without causing
skin irritation.
Apply a relatively thick coat on the area and leave it on the skin
for about half an hour, then remove it with a paper towel. Apply a
gentle moisturizer afterwards.
Turmeric has several important health benefits worth taking
into account. In terms of skin care, turmeric is considered to be
an effective skin lightener.
A homemade facial made from turmeric
powder, yogurt and gram flour is a good choice if you are
struggling with freckles and wish to have a radiant, healthy
skin.
Honey can be beneficial for a lot of skin problems due to
its wonderful properties. A natural humectant, honey also contains
antioxidants that protect the skin making it soft and healthy.
Unpasteurized honey mixed with mashed red currants might help make
freckles less obvious, if used regularly.
