One of the worst drawbacks of shaving are the unsightly razor burns. Here's how to prevent them.
Razor burns represent just one of the problems that women
have to confront with in their attempt of looking gorgeous. Using a
razor is one of the cheapest and at the same time the fastest
method of getting rid of unwanted hair. However, although the usage
of a razor can easily make you look fresh, it can also determine
the appearance of bumps and burns that do not only look bad, but
also hurt. Nonetheless, there are ways to prevent this.
Preventing is better than treating, so in case you are thinking of
using a razor again, you should take into consideration the advice
related to how you can stop the appearance of those nasty red
bumps. The first thing you should do before shaving is to purchase
a new razor that has a skin guard or one of those moisture strips.
If you have used yours for more than five times, make sure to throw
it out, as it probably is already worn out and infected with
bacteria.
The second thing that you should do is to allow your hair and your
skin to soften before you shave it. You can do this by simply
soaking in some hot or warm water, depending on your preferences.
Before shaving, you should also remove the dead skin cells and the
bacteria from the area you want to shave, by using a gentle
exfoliator. This way you will prevent the follicle getting filled
with bacteria that could later cause infections.
The last step before shaving is the use of a shaving gel. This
should be gently applied to the area you want to shave and left
there for a couple of minutes.
When you begin shaving, you should do it in the hair growth
direction and not against it, as most women do. After you are done
with the shaving, you can rinse the shaved areas with cold water
and also dab on some Neosporin that has the ability of moisturizing
the area and of protecting it. To avoid razor burns on legs,
you can also stop wearing synthetic or tight clothes, as these will
only hold the sweat very close to the skin and cause friction as
well.
In the unfortunate case that you do get razor bumps or razor
burns after shaving, there are also some things you can do in
order to alleviate the pain. First of all, you should leave the
bumps alone, although they might have white heads. In addition, you
should avoid shaving for the next days as well.
To avoid scaring and kill the bacteria, you can use Neosporin or
salicylic acid. In case you do not have any of these at home, you
can simply use aspirin. Just crush one up, add a little water to it
and make a paste. Use it for the most affected areas and you will
see that the redness will go down. If you don’t have any, you can
also use hydrocortisone. However, you should not use it for a long
period of time, as your skin can get used to it and not respond to
this treatment in the future anymore.
Before deciding to use a razor, you should be aware of the pros and cons of shaving
your legs.
