I. Plastic Surgery:- It is a medical specialty concerned with correction or restoration of form & function. Though aesthetic or cosmetic surgery is best known kind of plastic surgery, plastic surgery is not necessarily cosmetic. Plastic surgery includes reconstructive surgery, hand surgery, micro surgery, carniofacial surgery & treatment of burns.
II. Techniques:- In plastic surgery skin grafting is common procedure. Skin grafts can be taken from donors or recepients. Autografts are taken from recepient. If absent of natural tissue, alternative can be taken in form epithelial cells in synthetic compound, such as integra, which consists of silicone.
Allografts are taken from donor of same species.
Xenografts are taken from donor of different species.
III. Reconstructive Surgery:- This surgery is used to correct functional impairments caused by burns; traumatic injuries, such as facial bone fractures & breaks, developmental abnormalities; infection & diseases; & cancer or tumors.
IV. Cosmetic Surgery:- Cosmetic surgery is an optional procedure that is performed on normal parts of the body with the only purpose of improving person's appearance.
Types of cosmetic surgery:-
a) Abdominoplasty, reshaping & firming of the abdomen.
b) Eyelid Surgery, reshaping of eyelids.
c) Butt implant
d) Liposuction
e) Laser
V. Skin:-Skin is the outer covering of the body. In humans, it is the largest organ of the integumentary system. The skin has multiple layer of ectodermal tissue & guards the underlying muscles, bones, ligaments & internal organs.
