Eyes are a very important part of our human body and it is very essential that we care for them. Many people struggle with poor vision and don't bother going to the doctor to get themselves checked up. The moment you face a problem with your sight is when you need to visit the doctor. There are many signs which indicate the necessity of an eye test.

The optometrist after a thorough check up will prescribe a pair of spectacles depending on the eye condition, which will assist in your vision. There are different types of spectacles that are available, namely, corrective, single vision, reading glasses, bifocal, trifocal, progressive and adjustable focus. Some spectacles also serve as sunglasses once they come in contact with sunlight.
Lately, many are opting for contact lenses over spectacles as they find them more convenient than glasses. Lenses fit directly on the curvature of the eye and provide a wider field of view. It also adds to your fashion statement. Daily activities become much easier as glasses don't get in the middle of your work. You can exercise or play sports freely without the fear of your glasses falling or breaking. Nevertheless, contact lenses need daily care and cleansing to avoid eye infections. An alternative would be to use daily disposable lenses.
However, there are some who prefer glasses as they require very little cleaning and maintenance and are comparatively cheaper to contact lenses as they don't have to be replaced often.
In some cases doctors even suggest eye surgery which may eliminate the necessity for wearing glasses or lenses. In most of the cases the surgeries are successful and the patient experiences a lot of improvement in his or her vision. There are both pro's and con's to eye surgery and it would be wise to opt for it only after proper consultation with an expert optometrist or ophthalmologist.
